What's happening with Rise & Howl:
The Shroud Maker
By Ahmed Masoud | Directed by Julie Domaille
Hajja Souad, an 80-year-old Palestinian woman living in the Gaza Strip, knows about survival - and business, making shrouds for the dead.
This exceptional one-woman black comedy exposes the intimate world of ordinary Palestinians, weaving together satire and true stories told first-hand to the writer.
Loosely based on a real figure still living in Gaza, The Shroud Maker uses black comedy to paint an apolitical, vivid, and compelling portrait of resilience on the front lines of history.
The Shroud Maker is timely, haunting, and sharply witty.

TRAPPINGS

Four inmates await the arrival of “fresh meat”, on the first day of their group therapy sessions. Dystopian and darkly comic, each person has their own story, strangely recognisable; as old as storytelling itself but disturbingly still heartbreakingly relevant today.

Workshop
An Opportunity*
By Paula Boyle
We were so excited to bring together an inspiring group of NHS nurses, director Chrissie Poulter and eight local actors for a workshop in Bradford this February.
Our team collaborated and played with a new piece of fictional writing based on themes taken from nurses' testimonies. We are bursting to tell the stories of these incredible people, the sacrifices they make and the struggles they face to provide us all with care. Next stage is a rehearsed reading later in the year - watch this space!
This work would not be possible without the support of The John Hodgson Theatre Research Trust to whom we are extremely grateful.
